The Secretariat of Comprehensive Drug Policies of the Argentine Nation (SEDRONAR) will make a national survey of more than 100,000 high school students from all over the country to find out details of substance use. It will be in March and the Minister of Health, Mario Lugonesreviewed next actions.
Lugones visited SEDRONAR this Friday to review the progress on the agenda and upcoming actions, among which the survey stands out, which will take place in March and will cover 110,000 high school students between 13 and 17 years old.
Accompanied by the chief of staff, Roberto Oliveriand the Secretary of Health Management, Alejandro Vilchestoured the Secretariat facilities and held a meeting with authorities of the organization to review the joint work.
More than 100,000 high school students will be surveyed about drug use
This survey seeks estimate the magnitude of the consumption of psychoactive substances, know its characteristics and associated factors in the school population that is attending secondary level.
With this study, which has not been carried out for 10 years, the lifetime, year and month prevalence of drug use in the school population, estimate the age of initiation of consumptionand know the level of exposure, access and risk factors associated with the consumption of legal and illegal drugs.
Early Warning Detection System
The Secretary of Comprehensive Drug Policies of the Argentine Nation Roberto Moro advanced the progress on the implementation of the Early Warning System (SAT) for the detection of problematic substances and consumption. This is a work articulated with the Ministry of National Security.
This system is defined as a set of technical and communication procedures between various State agencies, aimed at the collection and production of information for the early detection of new psychoactive substances, emerging drugs and consumption patterns.
This occurs with the corresponding risk assessment for the population and development of timely responses so that Hospitals and Sanatoriums have the necessary information to act in cases of consumption of these substances. This was the year with the highest number of alerts: 9 substances were incorporated into the system.
Next actions in Health
As part of the next actions to be carried out, the health authorities learned about the national survey that is planned – in the month of March, at the beginning of classes – on consumption in groups of secondary students.
In addition to the study of consumption in adolescents, will investigate online gambling, vaping and substance abuse for the first time during the Last First Day (UPD). For a comprehensive approach, these actions will be carried out jointly with the Ministry of Human Capital.
