Gal Gadot: Her last pregnancy was so dramatic

Israeli actress Gal Gadot (39) has revealed for the first time that she suffered a life-threatening complication while pregnant with her fourth daughter. A blood clot had formed in the brain and had to be removed surgically.

The “Wonder Woman” actress described the dramatic event in a long Instagram post on Sunday, December 29th. In the eighth month of her pregnancy, she was diagnosed with a “huge blood clot” in her brain. “For weeks I had excruciating headaches that left me bedridden until I finally underwent an MRI scan that revealed the terrible truth,” the 39-year-old wrote. “In one moment, my family and I were confronted with how fragile life can be. It was a powerful reminder of how quickly everything can change, and in the middle of a difficult year, I just wanted to hang in there and live.”

Gadot said she was taken to the hospital where she had to undergo emergency surgery. During the procedure in spring 2024, her now nine-month-old daughter Ori was born. “Her name, which means ‘my light’, was not chosen by chance,” emphasized the actress. Before the operation, she told her husband “that when our daughter is born, she will be the light waiting for me at the end of the tunnel.”

The 39-year-old thanked the “extraordinary medical team” at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. She is now “completely healed” but wants to raise other people’s awareness of the issue. “Pain, discomfort or even subtle changes often have a deeper meaning and listening to your body can be life-saving.” She didn’t know “that 3 out of 100,000 pregnant women in the age group over 30 will be diagnosed with CVT (a blood clot in the brain). It’s so important to catch this early because it’s treatable. It’s rare, but a possibility, and knowing it exists is the first step to addressing it.”

Gal Gadot unexpectedly announced the birth of her fourth daughter via Instagram on March 6th. She had not previously made her pregnancy public. It was “not easy,” she only gave a little insight at the time. The actress has been married to Israeli film producer Jaron Varsano (49) since 2008. In addition to Ori, they also have the girls Alma (13), Maya (7) and Daniella (3).
