Confusion about Hannelore Hoger’s age: obituary notice poses a mystery
Was Hannelore Hoger 82 or 84 or maybe 85 years old? This question is raised by the actress’s obituary, which does not match the previous information.
With artists it can sometimes happen that as they get older they become a little trickier. At least those around you and the press can easily lose track of things. That seems to be the case with actress Hannelore Hoger.
Hoger died shortly before Christmas on December 21, 2024, that much seems clear. But when was she really born? Articles on the internet provide a few different versions: everything from 82 to 84 years is included. The online encyclopedia Wikipedia assumes that Hoger is 84 years old – as does the Regine Schmitz agency, which even provides a CV for Hoger. You can read on this: Hannelore Hoger was born in 1940.

But on Saturday, January 4th, obituaries appear. Published by major newspapers such as the “Süddeutsche” and the “Hamburger Abendblatt”. Her loved ones, especially daughter Nina, chose beautiful last words for the respected German actress such as: “Love is like paradise, and you can only feel it if you meet it in amazement,” a quote from Hoger himself.
Her family says goodbye to her with the words “With endless love and gratitude – there are no other words.” But upon closer inspection, one notices: According to this advertisement, Hannelore Hoger was born on August 20, 1939. She was therefore 85 years old when she died.

The early years
Hannelore Hoger, born in Hamburg in 1941, came to acting early: her father worked as a stage manager at the Ohnsorg Theater. At the age of 14 she received her first major role there. Apparently the media reports about her reaching the age of 82 to 84 were all somewhat embellished. At some point there was probably confusion about the true age of the acting great. But the 85 years of life that Hannelore Hoger reached, according to the obituary, she filled with love, acting skills and beautiful memories for the family and the audience – and thus possibly a year more than expected.
