The young man, originally from Bahía Blanca, was spotted floating approximately 1,500 meters from the coast by a group of lifeguards, who confirmed the identity of the body. The news was corroborated by Pablo Techera, head of the lifeguard service.

The Naval Prefecture of Uruguay had resumed search operations by sea this Sunday, after the improvement of climatic conditions. During the previous days, gusts of wind and strong waves had made it difficult to deploy boats, jet skis and the work of divers.. With the cessation of bad weather, the operation was able to resume, including searches in key areas with the support of boats and divers.

On Sunday, the National Navy of Uruguay expanded the search area to the José Ignacio resort, located about 45 kilometers from Punta del Este, in an attempt to cover a larger radius.

The tragic incident occurred on January 1, when Franco Toro, 30, disappeared in the ocean waters of Punta del Este while trying to rescue two women who had asked for help. According to authorities, the incident occurred around 7:15 in the morning, local time, in a rocky area between El Emir and Los Dedos beaches.

The Naval Prefecture received a notice about three people with difficulties getting out of the water. Immediately, the local detachment mobilized a boat and land vehicles to the scene. There it was confirmed that two women, upon entering the water and losing their footing, were assisted by two men who accompanied them.

One of the women managed to get out of the water on her own, while the other and one of the men had to be rescued by Prefecture personnel. A third man who had also entered the water managed to get out without help. However, Franco Toro did not suffer the same fate and remained missing until he was finally found dead after several days of searching.

This outcome closes an operation that mobilized the authorities and generated commotion in both Uruguay and Argentina.
