The series, which was originally intended as a single season, had a great run at the Golden Globes.

Shogun A new season is approaching. After his dominance in the Golden Globes (winning the drama series award, as well as three acting awards), the writers behind the series are busy working on season two.

“Well, it’s still going,” said the executive producer and creator Rachel Kondo. “We keep trying. We have not given up. And I’m not sure what we can say.” Kondo’s husband and also executive producer and creator, Justin MarksHe added: “We are about six weeks away from the end of the writers room.”

Marks recently closed a new overall television deal with FX Productions, which sees him develop new projects for FX, including potential new seasons of Shogun with Kondo. Possible new seasons of the series are being developed in collaboration with the Clavell estate.

Shogun’s record at the Emmy Awards

In September, the program set a record with its 18 Emmy Awardsmarking the most wins for a series in a single season. That included awards for best drama series, best actor in a drama series (Sanada) and best actress in a drama series (Sawai).

Shogun was originally considered a limited seriesbut with its success and critical acclaim, FX began thinking about turning it into a regular series. In May, star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada signed a deal with FX to return as Lord Yoshii Toranaga in the historical epic set in Japan. FX then moved the show into the drama categories in the 2024 Emmy race.

Later in May, it was revealed that a writers room would be started last summer to develop two more seasons of the show. FX has not yet formally renewed the show’s contract.

The first season of Shogun can be seen on Disney+.
