The Edge has hinted that new U2 musical material will arrive “very soon” and that the band is looking to organize some live shows.
The guitarist gave an update on the band’s new music during a recent interview on the Sodajerker on Songwriting podcast, and confirmed that a new single could be released imminently.
“We may have a new song coming out soon, which you will hear about. I can’t say anything more. “We are in a great creative moment,” he said.
He also added that the band has gotten into the habit of presenting finished sections to each other during the writing process, so they can focus on material that can be fully fleshed out rather than something that is “never going to work.”
“I fooled myself. I thought, ‘Well, this is for The Edge’s solo album, so I can’t leave these things half done. It doesn’t have to have finished letters, but it has to have a solid structure. And I think that extra discipline has been very helpful,’” he said.
“I’ve been working on a lot of material and now that we’re doing some U2 sessions with that materialit seems to be paying off,” The Edge continued. “We could still end up changing it a lot, but we’re not going to waste time on an idea that was never going to work.”
The last new music U2 shared arrived in 2023 as a standalone single “Atomic City”. However, last year they shared unreleased material that was recorded in 2004. It was a song called “Happiness” which first emerged during sessions for the band’s 2004 album “How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb”.
U2 and the possibility of going on tour in 2025
Later in the recent interview, The Edge said that the band was eager to embark on more live shows after completing their big residency. “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere” at the Las Vegas Sphere.
“We hope to be able to do some shows”said. “We did a tour of Las Vegas, which was fantastic, but we didn’t get to see much of the world. “We’re looking forward to connecting with our fans where they live, rather than them having to come to us.”
