Udo Jürgens’ possessions go under the hammer

Udo Jürgens was very successful during his lifetime. Accordingly, the musician received numerous awards. Some of them and other belongings of his are now being auctioned off.

A good ten years after his death, music legend Udo Jürgens’ former possessions are being auctioned off. The first objects were presented on Wednesday at the Sotheby’s auction house in Munich. These include Bambi, which was first awarded to Udo Jürgens in 1970, a series of gold records, a bathrobe with signatures of German national football players and paintings by Jürgens’ brother Manfred Bockelmann.

The auction items will also be shown in Vienna and Cologne before the auction of the singer’s former possessions takes place online from January 23rd to 30th. There are a total of 99 so-called lots that can be auctioned. A lot can contain several objects, for example three copies of the Golden Camera media prize are auctioned together.

Only auction from Udo Jürgens’ estate

Udo Jürgens is one of the most successful German-speaking singers of all time. He died on December 21, 2014 at the age of 80. His children John and Jenny Jürgens explained about the auction in December: “We have been working intensively on our father’s estate for ten years now.” After long and careful consideration, they decided to make parts of the legacy available to Udo Jürgens’ fans through the auction.

Sotheby’s spokeswoman Selai Serafin put the estimated expected proceeds of the objects at between 370,000 and 500,000 euros. “The market will show how much it’s worth.” This is the only auction of objects from Udo Jürgens’ estate. The most valuable objects include works of art, but also the glass grand piano with which Udo Jürgens played many of his concerts.

According to the auction house, John and Jenny Jürgens want to use the proceeds to support the Udo Jürgens Foundation, which, among other things, supports young artists. The Sotheby’s spokeswoman was unable to say whether all proceeds from the auction would benefit the foundation.
