Anyone who thinks everyone loves you is delusional, says the film star. As far as funny fellow actors go, he remembers Brad Pitt, George Clooney, but also a German.
According to film star John Malkovich, wanting to be popular as a motivation for creative people is a big mistake. Such people “don’t understand something very fundamental,” the 71-year-old told the magazine “Der Spiegel” (3/25). “Anyone who is famous and liked by many people is hated by just as many people. Someone always thinks you’re horrible. That’s a fact, and I think that’s a good thing. If you think you’re loved by everyone, suffers from delusions.”
Fun with Dafoe, Pitt and Clooney
When asked who he enjoyed playing with most throughout his long career, Malkovich said. “I can’t think of anyone I haven’t had fun with. I really enjoyed working with Willem Dafoe on Shadow of the Vampire.” There’s also Brad Pitt and George Clooney on “Burn After Reading – Who’s Burning Their Fingers Here?” been funny. “Brad Pitt is funny, a really good comedian, he should do that more often.”
Finally, the American living in Boston thinks about working with Germans. “When I made “The Unhold” with Volker Schlöndorff, a film about an outsider in the Third Reich, Volker Spengler played Hermann Göring. The man was incredibly funny, he made me snort non-stop.”
Spengler, who became known for his leading role in the Fassbinder film “In a Year with 13 Moons,” died five years ago at the age of 80.
