Kai and Sophia Havertz: Football fans send disgusting messages

Because of a missed penalty by Kai Havertz (25) in the English FA Cup, Instagram users sent horrific hate messages to the German football professional’s pregnant wife. Sophia Havertz, who has been married to the soccer player since last year and is expecting their first child, is threatened with the death of her unborn baby.

Sophia Havertz has two examples of the messages she received on the platform, where she currently has around 541,000 followers. “I hope you have a miscarriage,” writes one user. Another threatens to kill the child when it is born: “I will come to your house and slaughter your baby. I’m not joking, just wait and see.”

“The fact that someone thinks it’s okay to write something like that is so shocking to me…”, says Sophia Havertz, commenting on the hate messages. “I hope you’re so ashamed of yourself.” The soccer star’s wife wasn’t sure what to say about it, “but please be more respectful. We’re better than that…”

Kai Havertz and his wife Sophia got married last year. In November, the couple announced they were expecting their first child together. “Our greatest blessing,” the two wrote with four black and white pictures.

The spread of hate online has been a major problem for many years. Tennis player Caroline Garcia (31) also drew attention to this last summer. Among other things, she wished that her mother would die soon. Hundreds of such messages reached her after she lost a few matches.

“It really worries me when I think about the younger players who have to go through something like this. […] You might think that it doesn’t harm us. But it does. We are human beings. […] I know that those who write these terrible messages will not change because of it. But maybe the next time you see a post from an athlete, singer, or other person who has failed or lost, remember that he or she is also a human being trying his or her best in life. “
