The British theater legend Joan Plowright is dead. The wife of the actor of the century Laurence Olivier was 95 years old.
The British star actress Joan Plowright (1929-2025) is dead. “It is with great sadness that the family of Dame Joan Plowright, the Lady Olivier, announces that she will pass away with her family on January 16, 2025 at the age of 95 “Denville Hall passed away peacefully,” said a statement from his relatives. A cause of death is not given.
Joan Plowright enjoyed the last decade of her life
Plowright had a “long and illustrious career in theater, film and television that spanned seven decades,” it said. The theater star recently went blind. Plowright enjoyed “her last ten years in Sussex with constant visits from friends and family”. These moments were filled with “a lot of laughter and beautiful memories.”
The deceased appeared on a British stage for the first time in 1948, was a member of the English Stage Company and during this time she appeared in performances of Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” as well as Chekhov’s “Three Sisters” and “Uncle Vanya” – among many others. She was also nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Mike Newell’s (82) “Enchanted April”. Plowright was married to her second husband Laurence Olivier (1907-1989) from 1961 until his death in 1989. The marriage resulted in three children.
