The Norwegian Queen Sonja was released from the clinic one day after an operation. She had a pacemaker inserted.
Norwegian Queen Sonja (87) continues to recover from her operation at home: King Harald’s wife (87) has already been able to leave the hospital, as the palace reported on Friday. A short statement there says: “Her Majesty the Queen was released from the Rikshospitalet today.” She is “in good shape.” The royal family further stated: “The Queen is on sick leave until Friday, January 24th.”
Successful operation on Queen Sonja
The 87-year-old had a pacemaker implanted in the clinic. The Norwegian royal family had previously announced this. The 87-year-old was admitted to hospital on January 11th after she developed atrial fibrillation during a ski trip in Lillehammer. In the meantime, Queen Sonja was back at home before undergoing the procedure on January 16th. This “was successful and the Queen is doing well,” the palace wrote afterwards.
In recent months, King Harald, to whom Sonja has been married since 1968, has also been struggling with health problems. He therefore announced that he would reduce his public appearances. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway (51) has represented his father several times in the past.
King Harald also had a pacemaker inserted
In February 2024, a few days after his 87th birthday, the royal family announced that King Harald had to be admitted to a hospital in Malaysia. He fell ill during his vacation and had to go to the clinic with an infection. He had a temporary pacemaker fitted and was then flown back home. In Oslo he underwent further surgery to have a permanent pacemaker implanted. He returned to work in April.
