Today, January 20th, Donald Trump took office as the 47th President of the USA. His inaugural speech was predictably populist.
Whether you want to admit it or not – Donald Trump (78) is the new President of the United States of America. During his inaugural speech in the dome of the Capitol in Washington, he impressed the assembled guests less with statesmanlike grandeur than with the radical measures he intends to take at the start of his new presidency. This drew applause, not least from the assembled tech billionaires Elon Musk (53), Jeff Bezos (61) and Mark Zuckerberg (40).
Due to the frosty outside temperatures, Donald Trump’s inauguration did not take place on the forecourt of the Capitol in Washington, as usual, but in the dome hall of the venerable building. As expected, representatives of US political and social celebrities attended the memorable event.
All former presidents attended the inauguration
Trump, who refused to attend the inauguration of Joe Biden (82) in 2021 after his election defeat, invited the still living ex-presidents of his country, George W. Bush (78), Bill Clinton (78), to mark this special occasion. Barack Obama (63) and his immediate predecessor Joe Biden were welcomed along with the previous Vice President Kamala Harris (60).
After the opera singer Christopher Macchio (46) performed the national anthem of the USA at the inauguration and the country singer Carrie Underwood (41) was allowed to perform the patriotic song “America The Beautiful” despite a sound breakdown, Trump’s deputy James David “JD ” Vance (40) sworn into his new office. Then it was Trump’s turn and vowed to “faithfully execute” the office of President of the United States and to protect and defend the country’s Constitution to the best of his ability.
His swearing in was then followed by the inaugural speech known as the “Inaugural Address”, in which the new president traditionally outlines the cornerstones of his beginning term of office and tries to swear his people into them. Even though Trump promised to strive for the best for all Americans as president, he also made it clear that a completely new wind would now blow under his administration.
“The Golden Age of America”
“The golden age of America begins right now,” Trump made clear at the beginning of his speech and then immediately denounced the failures of the previous government under Joe Biden in striking words. Fortunately, with his inauguration, “America’s decline” is finally over; his swearing in is nothing less than a “day of liberation.” In the further course of his 20-minute speech, the new president announced several radical measures that he had previously promised in his populist election campaign appearances.
Among other things, he is planning drastic action against illegal immigrants, for which he plans to declare a national emergency on the US border with Mexico and send the military to the border region. He also wants to withdraw from the Paris Climate Protection Agreement with immediate effect and ensure that, despite all the gender debates, there are only two officially recognized genders. Of course, the Gulf of Mexico will also be renamed the “Gulf of America” and the Panama Canal will be returned to its rightful owners, namely the USA. One thing you can rely on under his leadership: “We will flourish and prosper like never before.”
