Sad news about Marianne Faithfull: The musician of the 1960s died on January 30th.
The British musician Marianne Faithfull (1946-2025) is dead. This reported, among other things, and refers to a statement by her speaker. “With great grief we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull,” it says.
The singer “died peacefully” in London on January 30th in London, said the spokesman. “It will be painfully missing.” Faithfull was 78 years old.
As a friend of Mick Jagger to fame
Marianne Faithfull was born on December 29, 1946 in London. In 1964 she met Rolling-Stones front man Mick Jagger (81) at the age of 17. Together with Keith Richards (81), he wrote to her in the same year the song “As Tears Go By”, which she made a star overnight. Faithfull became one of the best-known singers of the 1960s and was also successful as an actress, including in the film “Naked under leather” (1968).
In 1967 she left her husband, the artist John Dunbar (82), after just a few months to enter into a relationship with Jagger. The two became the dream couple of swinging sixties and dominated the media with their rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle. But this life also had dark sides: after the separation from Jagger in 1969, Faithfull retired because of her heroin addiction and even lived on the street for two years.
Drug addiction and covid-19
In 1979 she celebrated her comeback with the album “Broken English”, but her addiction was not overcome. Only in their 40s is said to have made the jump from the drugs in their 40s. As the BBC reported, however, it continued to suffer from serious health problems, including bulimia, breast cancer, hepatitis-C infection and an emphysema that was caused by decades of smoking.
In 2021 Marianne Faithfull then suffered seriously to Covid-19. The doctors did not expect a recovery, but she released an album again with a speech singing called “She Walks in Beauty”. Even then, the musician announced that it was probably her last work – because of the lung damage, she could no longer sing.
Faithfull leaves her son Nicholas Dunbar (59) from her first marriage. After John Dunbar she was married two more times.
