The Berlin film scene has lost one of its most distinctive voices. , the actress and director Dagmar Beiersdorf died in her apartment on Wannsee at the age of 80. Beiersdorf, born in Berlin in 1944, was one of the most important figures of the Berlin Underground cinema.

Her artistic career began in 1972 with a role in Lambert’s film “Ex und Hopp”. In the following years she developed into a versatile artist who worked both in front of and behind the camera. Her best -known works as an actress included “The Songt Roman woman” (1980) and “Drama in Blond” (1984). As a director, she created idiosyncratic films with “doll broken” (1977) and “The wolf bride” (1984), which significantly shaped the genre of the German independent film. A special highlight of her career was the presentation of her film “Dirty Daughter – the whore and the son of the son” at the Berlinale 1982.

Last phase of life

After her last film “In Hassliebe Lola” from 1995, Beiersdorf increasingly withdrew from the public. She devoted herself to painting and campaigned for animal welfare. The sudden death of her much younger husband Mustafa Iskandarani due to a heart attack a few years ago and health problems have been heavily burdened in recent years.

Lambert describes his long -time girlfriend as an artist who made plans until the end and did not want to be kept down. As Lambert also announced, Beiersdorf died through suicide. Beiersdorf leaves a rich cinematic heritage that the German underground film scene has shaped to this day. On April 1, she would have turned 81.
