The South Korean actress Lee Joo-Sil, who gained international fame through her role in the Netflix series “Squid Game”, died on February 2 in her house in UijeongBu. the 81-year-old succumbed to a cancer that was only diagnosed in November 2024. In the Netflix series, she embodied the mother of the undercover detective Hwang Joon-Ho.
According to the Korean newspaper “The Chosun Ilbo”, Lee Joo-Sil had previously fought against cancer. In her fifties, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the advanced stage. At that time, the doctors gave her less than a year of life. But the actress fought back to life and was considered healed 13 years later.

Lee Joo-Sil looked back on a long career.
