When working on his new album, there was a difficult moment for Elton John. A song is about mortality. “I sobbed for about 45 minutes.”
Pop star Elton John (77) concerns the thought of his death. On his new album, which he recorded with US musician Brandi Carlile, there is a song entitled “When this old world is done with me”. It deals with death and mortality, said John in a BBC interview. He collapsed when working on it.
“When you come to your late 1970s, you think about mortality, especially if you have children and a great husband,” said John. “You think:” Hopefully I’ll have a few more years. “And that’s why it really moved me and I sobbed for 45 minutes.”
The British musician (“Rocket Man”, “I’m Still Standing”) had made public a few months ago that he has had problems with seeing since an eye infection. At the moment he could hardly see, he also told the Guardian newspaper. “There were days when I felt miserable, but then I think of how much luck I am.” He has new respect for people who could see badly or are completely blind.
He has a great life and hopefully his eyesight will improve, said John. He had already done a lot, survived both addiction and health problems. “It doesn’t get me under.” The new album “Who Believes in Angels?” should appear in April.
