The Italo-Popper Olly won the 75th edition of the Sanremo music festival. The 23-year-old from the nearby port city of Genoa on the Italian Riviera prevailed against 28 others with the ballad “Balorda Nostalgia”. Olly – With a bourgeois name Federico Olivieri – Italy is now also represented at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), which takes place in Basel in Switzerland in mid -May.
Two years ago, the Northern Italian in Sanremo had already won the youth competition. “Balorda Nostalgia” (“Evil Nostalgia”) is about memories of earlier times that suddenly get through and also hurt. “A feeling that people from the sea is very familiar,” said this year’s winner.

Germany will decide on March 1st about the ESC contribution
