Alexej Nawalny: Pictures from the life of the famous oppositional

A year ago, Alexej Nawalny died a man who was one of the most determined and active opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Born on June 4, 1976 west of Moscow, Nawalny first studied law and finance. He later becomes known in the opposition.

He makes his political beginnings in the liberal-democratic Jabloko party. There he will be excluded later because he describes himself as a nationalist. From 2011, he will be aware of the borders of Russia from his organization, which is devoted to the fight against corruption. The foundation also published the well -known video about Putin’s wealth and its villa in 2021.

In the course of his life, the opposition is arrested and accused several times. It is also the accusations that prevent his presidential candidacy in Russia in 2018. The central election commission in Russia excludes Nawalny from the election, which is sharply condemned abroad.

But the Kremlin critic is also personally attacked. In 2017 it will be attacked on the face with green color, presumably mixed with acid. In 2020, he briefly survived poisoning with the chemical fighting substance Nowitschok. First medical staff in Siberia saves his life, then he is flown out to Germany, where he is tapped up by the doctors of the Berlin Charité. Nawalny and his team blame the Kremlin for the events – that shows any participation.

Always on Nawalny’s side: his wife Julia Nawalnaja. The two marry in 2000 and get two children, Daria and Zakhar. It is also Nawalnaja who accompanies him in freedom on his last flight in 2021. After five months of recovery in Germany, Nawalny insists on returning to Russia. There he is still arrested at the airport in Moscow – the subsequent protests are put down, thousands are arrested.

The following time in the penalty camp is likely to have been one of the most difficult of his life, he later calls the camps “friendly concentration camp”. The activist and opposition skills complain several times missing medical help, harassment and even torture.

While his team starts a campaign against Putin in December 2023, Nawalny disappears from the scene. The time so shortly before the Russian election is no coincidence, observers believe. The Federal Government, the EU and the USA are concerned because Nawalny recognized internationally as a political prisoner is also in terms of health. A few weeks later he reappears. He did not lose his humor, but it seems weakened.

On February 16, 2024, it is clear: contrary to the publicly borne despite, he did not survive this camp. To date, the Kremlin denies any responsibility.
