He wants to “make more effort” on Tikkok

Clueso celebrates its premiere as “The Voice Kids” coach. In the interview, he reveals how he would have done himself in the music show.

Season 13 “The Voice Kids” starts on Friday (February 21) at 8:15 p.m. in Sat.1 and for free on Joyn. In addition to the experienced coaches Stefanie Kloß (40) and defending champion Wincent Weiss (32), Ayliva (26) and Clueso (44) sit on the red chairs for the first time. In an interview with the news agency Spot on News, Clueso reveals why he “shit” before the music show and what he appreciates about working with the young talents. In addition, the two-time “Sing my song” participant (2022 and 2023) reveals how he deals with Tikok, how he understands the coaches and when his fans can count on new music.

You have already been seen as a guest coach at “The Voice of Germany”. Was that crucial that you are now at “The Voice Kids”?

Clueso: It was a super move to invite me there because I could get a taste of it. I am, as far as many TV things are concerned, always a little careful and think a lot beforehand: “Do I actually fit in here? Is that what for me? And how are the talents on site?” It was important to me personally to see that they are well caught and advised and how the team deals with the people. “Sing my song” also helped me to get a little more relaxed when it comes to music programs. There are no longer so many formats on TV where you can make music at all. But before “The Voice Kids” I also shit a bit …

Why?

Clueso: When I discovered something of the talents on the net of previous seasons, I was howling very quickly. There is a day on which you have softened or had stress. With such kids moments, if there are such small minis and thus deliver a performance, then the tears come.

What else has instilled respect for you?

Clueso: Everyone knows the red chairs, but only from a distance. And then I stand there myself, with years of music experience and as a seasoned musician and think: “Crass, there is this chair and my name is on it.” It’s just a huge show. This is a big stage and many people look at it. I know many in my family who watch “The Voice Kids”. How will I be there? How can I find my way there? And I have to say that I was a little careful at the beginning and then grew a little in.

Would you also take part in the mother’s show “The Voice of Germany” as a coach?

Clueso: I would not rule it out, but it would be more difficult for me than someone who had never had a vocal training who crawled in there and is not a sports singer, but as a narrative singer relies a lot on feeling and text to criticize someone with an adult. I would also get it because I then look for my points. But that with the kids moved me more because they are so real and go in unaffected. Even if they hide in an adult robe, the child flashes through and I somehow find everything closer. I always had the feeling when I meet the children and we chat with them: finally normal people (laughs)! Artists and kids are quite similar. In the backstage, artists are often the same with children.

Did you have previous experiences working with children?

Clueso: I made a lot of trips for the Goethe Institute and made music with students in Malaysia, Singapore or Australia. I learned a lot there that I can now use at “The Voice Kids”. Like, for example, “the quiet ones” who do not dare can win for themselves.

Do you have the feeling that you can keep up in the whole Tikok bubble or convey something to the kids?

Clueso: So I would not say that I am the market provider here or can do something that Tikkok couldn’t do (laughs). When I started, nuclear science was for me, I didn’t get in at all. Now I see that playfully and I think everyone now understands that you have to see it a bit with a wink. If you take this too seriously, you usually don’t have many followers. That gave up, at the beginning it was super artificial and even the big people on Tikkok are now trying to bring in naturalness. It is funny that I have a lot of followers even though I do relatively little. I will make a little more effort now. Maybe I will even get a few new followers because “The Voice Kids” has an incredible number of fans. But I also do nothing, all Ayliva fans are on the show. It is a bit sad when you spread your arms and the talent runs into her arms and not just once (laughs). All the more I have to win the talents for myself and get a little more out of me. I have learned that it will also be rewarded when you fought for the kids and change your mind.

Did you know the coaches personally before?

Clueso: I didn’t know Ayliva personally beforehand and learned to love her as a really cool person. We are the new ones that connected us the same. Sometimes we laugh at ourselves and think: “How is it going? Did you understand that?” I have known Steff for a long time. We have often met at festivals, were also together at “Sing my song” and always ran over to Bautzen and Erfurt. We have many things in common, including that we both try to speak High German (laughs). It’s nice that she is there, I have a little rest. I always say “chiefnie”. And I also hit Wincent a few times before, but rather fleeting. It is highly sensitive when it matters, but also the absolute entertainer and he makes a monkey without shame, that doesn’t hurt him at all. In the meantime he is “The Voice Kids” full professional, I saw his first programs when he was still there silent and now he rattles down the thing. I look a lot and he sometimes takes care of me so that I feel comfortable.

So rather a cooperation instead of competition?

Clueso: Of course I can’t speak for all the years “The Voice”, but definitely in our team. If we tease ourselves, I sometimes even say: “Hey, you can still be more blatant, make you calm.” I originally come from the hip-hop, there is the standard (laughs).

How did you get music yourself as a child? Who shaped it?

Clueso: First of all, the desire to actually be the focus of being the focus of being able to show something to the other kids. If you notice that some are better in sport, but what can I actually do? How can I shine? In the beginning it was the guitar that my father gave me. He brought them from a company trip and saved himself in GDR times. My grandpa then taught me to play them. He was a very good friend of mine, sang a lot with me and encouraged the songwriter in me. Then I put the guitar away and the right spark then jumped over during hip-hop times. I started with break dance and came to a rap. On the first stages in youth clubs I noticed that this is exactly my thing. I had to take away the microphone. Later I unpacked the guitar because I noticed that I am not the classic rapper. I don’t really fit into the costume if I do too cool and not me at all.

What would you have liked to know in the beginning of your career, which you might be able to give the kids now?

Clueso: Actually that. Actually. When I see someone who quickly has the attitude “I have to be the coolest here”, then I can give him: When you see how you are as a person, how you are to your brother or your family are, then these are plus points for the show, but also for the career. It is a small country, you all meet again, you shouldn’t do and pretend all the time. I would have found that well if someone had told me that at the beginning.

To what extent can a career music show can help, would you like to have the chance yourself?

Clueso: It is an opportunity to show yourself in any case. But I always hope and always say that everyone: you have to see it playful. It is a talent show where there are blatant natural talents that you want to measure against. Sometimes you can’t fool yourself. If I had been at “The Voice Kids”, I would probably not even have come into the preliminary round (laughs). My style has only developed for me. And that’s what I am also on the show to explain it to people.

They announced in 2024 that a new album could come soon. What can you reveal?

Clueso: I’m sitting on the first pieces now. I had written a lot of acoustic songs, but then noticed that I now want to go to the studio with my band with which I have been working with for seven or eight years. I decided to make a pop album, with many live sounds that simply arise. That you turn on and the music speaks out of the box because people make music together.

Do you want to finish the album in 2025?

Clueso: I try to take the pressure out for me. I don’t know if the world needs an album right now. You can also shuffle along singles. This usually helps me that in the end a plate is created because I like to make music and write a lot. I’ve already made two or three numbers in the studio with which I am very happy. I will then cut them out.
