Ernst Hilbich stood on stages and in front of the camera for decades. He also gained awareness with a carnival hit. Now the cabaret artist is dead.
The actor and cabaret artist Ernst Hilbich is dead. The singer of the carnival hit “Today ‘is a carnival in Knieritz on the knuckle” died at the age of 93, as his family confirmed the German press agency after “Bild” had previously reported.
He was popular through a appearance in programs such as “On the ongoing volume” with Rudi Carrell and “Zum Blauen Bock” with Heinz Schenk. In the WDR series “Die Anerrheiner” he played the role of the electrician Jupp Adamski.
Hilbich had always emphasized that he hadn’t learned anything: never went to the drama school, never learned to read grades and had never had dance lessons. And yet he was on stage at the age of 17. He got his first roles in the Rheinische Landestheater in Neuss. In addition, he intended as a props and chauffeur and before that as a auxiliary lighting at the operetta theater in his hometown Siegburg.
Ernst Hilbich: His favorite role was Sams
His eleven years at the Düsseldorf cabaret theater KOM (M) Ödchen were the best time, he said in retrospect. “I couldn’t earn anything, because Doll was not paid for the cabaret at the time.” That is why he has increasingly took over roles in film and television since the 1960s.
There were also radio plays. In the Augsburg doll box, he was part of the firm speaker ensemble. His favorite role was Sams.
In the 1970s, Hilbich was the regular sketch partner of Rudi Carrell in addition to Heinz Eckner at “On the ongoing volume”. He played with Heinz Erhardt, Heidi Kabel and Harald Juhnke, with Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff, Roy Black and Georg Thomalla. He married his acting colleague Lotti Krekel – she died in 2023.
