“Emilia Pérez” actress Karla Sofía Gascón (52) has made her first appearance at a award ceremony since the controversy about previous racist and anti-Islam-anti-Islam social media posts. The Spaniard was a guest on Friday evening at the award of the César Awards in Paris, where “Emilia Pérez” was nominated in twelve categories and was awarded for seven, including for the best film.

appeared accompanied by two security men and sat in the same series as co-star Zoe Saldaña (46) and director Jacques Audiard (72), but not next to them. She was dressed in a black, long -sleeved robe.

“Emilia Pérez” receives seven Césars

In addition to Saldaña, Gascón was nominated in the “Best Last Actress” category, but both went away empty -handed. The victory went to Hafsia Herzi (38) for her role in “Borgo”, while Karim Leklou (42) for “Jim’s Story” was recognized as the best leading actor. The Spanish-speaking and French-produced film “Emilia Pérez” received prizes for the best film, the best director, the best adapted script, best camera, best tone, best film music and the best visual effects. Hollywood star Julia Roberts (57) was awarded the “César d’Honneur” honorary award.

Karla Sofía Gascón should also take part in Oscars

At the beginning of the week it was already known that Karla Sofía Gascón should also take part in the Oscar ceremony on March 2. The actress nominated for a gold boy as a “best leading actress” had previously participated in any of the important award ceremonies of the season, despite nominations, after the early February had appeared earlier social media posts in which she had spoken racist and anti-Islam. Among other things, she had referred to Islam as the “stove for human infection” and mocked the anti-racist movement after the death of black US citizen George Floyd by police violence.

In contrast, Netflix should pay for the costs of their Oscars participation. The streaming service removed Gascón from its advertising campaign for the Oscars in early February because of the tweet scandal. “Emilia Pérez” was produced for Netflix and has been nominated in a total of 13 categories at the Oscars. The Spanish-language film is the most frequently nominated, non-English-language film ever at the Oscars and Gascón the first trans woman to be nominated for an Oscar as the best actress.

According to “Variety”, the French film distributor Pathé, who markets the film in France, is said to have appeared for the costs of their participation in the César Awards.
