She was once celebrated as the “new queen of soul”. She had her last appearance at a carnival event. According to the subsequent journey, there was reportedly an accident.
The US soul singer Angie Stone died in a traffic accident at the age of 63. This reported several US media, citing Stone’s agent. The misfortune happened when Stone (“Wish I Didn’t Miss You”) after a performance in the southern US state of Alabama drove to a basketball tournament in the city of Baltimore on Saturday night, as the local WSFA reported.
According to the rapper Rahiem on Instagram, Stone was in a minibus and was the only fatal to the nine inmates. At first there was no public information on how the accident had occurred. Stone’s daughter Ladi Diamond wrote on Facebook: “My mom is no longer there” and added numerous crying emojis.
Last appearance “phenomenal”
Stone came from Columbia in the state of South Carolina. From the late 1970s she was a member of the hip-hop trio The Sequence, one of the first women’s groups in the genre. Later she celebrated some solo successes as a representative of the music direction Neo Soul – the “New York Times” she called the “New Queen of Soul” in 2001. Stone was nominated three times for the US Music Prize Grammy (2003, 2004, 2008). She published her last album in 2023. The R&B singer also worked as an actress and was involved in several reality shows.
According to WSFA, Stone’s last concert took place at the Grand Marshal’s Ball, an event for the carnival in the city of Mobile. Their appearance was “phenomenal”, the organizers wrote on Instagram. “Her talent captivated everyone present, and her presence gave the event a special note,” it said. “We could never have imagined that the last time it would be that we would have the honor of seeing them.”
