Gene Hackman was admitted to the memorial for the Oscar ceremony at short notice. Michelle Trachtenberg, however, was missing.
The actress Michelle Trachtenberg (1985-2025), who was surprisingly deceased at the age of 39, was not included in the “in Memoriam” segment of the Oscar Awards 2025. Fans immediately criticized this as “disrespectful”.
“Oscars, that’s so sad”
The tragic death became known on February 26th. Michelle Trachtenberg, who is known from the series “Buffy – the spell of the demons” and “Gossip Girl”, was found lifeless in an apartment near Central Park in New York. The cause of death may remain unclear because her family has rejected an autopsy.
Just a few days after the sad news, fans had hoped that Trachtenberg would be considered at the Oscar Awards. Traditionally, the late film stars of the past year are reminded during the gala. The commemoration section, which, with a touching homage of Morgan Freeman, began to have recently found dead Oscar winners Gene Hackman, praised many film sizes such as Maggie Smith, Donald Sutherland and David Lynch.
Fans of the “Gossip Girl” actress were outraged on social networks that she was not mentioned after her tragic death. “Michelle Trachtenberg deserves her flowers! #Oscars, that’s so sad,” wrote an X-user. Another fan added: “Oh, cursed, you all that you didn’t take Michelle Trachtenberg. So disrespectful.”
Other deceased stars were also missing
Some considered that she was not mentioned because she was more of a television actress. However, Trachtenberg also played in some films, for example in “17 Again – Back to High School” (2009) and “Harriet, the little detective” (1996). She is not the only actress who was not involved in the memorial. For example, “Candyman” actor Tony Todd and “Beverly Hills, 90210” star Shannen Doherty were missing.
