A documentary that describes the evacuation of Palestinian villages in West Bank wins an Oscar. The Israeli Minister of Culture reacts with outrage.
The Israeli Minister of Culture Miki Zohar has reacted negatively to the award of the Israeli-Palestinian documentary “No Other Land” with an Oscar. It was a “sad moment for the world of cinema,” Zohar wrote in a post on the platform X. The film deals with the evacuation of Palestinian villages in West Bank. The right -back Israeli government, which belongs to Zohar, is considered to be a settler.
The directors Basel Adra and Yuval Abraham used the stage in Los Angeles to point out the situation in their region.
Zohar wrote at X: “Instead of presenting the complexity of Israeli reality, the filmmakers have decided to strengthen stories that are distorted by Israel in front of an international audience.” Freedom of expression is an important value, “but transforming Israel into an instrument to get on internationally is not art,” he continued. Rather, it is “sabotage against the state of Israel, especially after the massacre on October 7 and the still ongoing war”.
