Pope Francis: secretary sucked in lung mirrors
The seizures were due to a significant accumulation of mucus and a cramp of the muscles of the airways. “Therefore, two lung mirrors were carried out in which a lot of secretions had to be sucked off,” said the Holy Chair. In the afternoon, a non-invasive, mechanical ventilation was also resumed.
“The Holy Father stayed awake, oriented and cooperative at all times,” says the message. The treating team of doctors did not want to make a forecast of a possible course. Most recently, the Vatican had that Francis’ state of health will show signs of stabilization after a serious respiratory crisis on Friday. The night of Monday had gone well.
On February 14, it became known for the first time that the Pope had to be treated in the hospital. The Stuhl press office had initially made public that Francis was brought to the Gemelli Clinic in Rome because of “persistent bronchitis”. Later, pneumonia had been reported on both sides.
