During the past week and until Sunday this theater party was held in the six Argentine theatrical regions: center, coastal center, Patagonia, Nea, Nuevo Cuyo and Noa. Through the call to the Federal Cycle, the National Theater Institute facilitates the conditions for citizens to access the experience of the theatrical phenomenon with 340 rooms and theatrical spaces from all over the country, with shows created in the six Argentine theater regions. We talked with the director of the INT, Mariano Stolkiner, About this initiative.

Journalist: What criteria apply to choose the works?
Mariano Stolkiner: A call was made to all the rooms that wanted to participate, which were a lot, no less than 340 rooms throughout the country in large urban centers and small villages in the different regions of the country, that is something wonderful. The same rooms propose programming of two works. It is a very heterogeneous program, it takes many territorialities, which offered 680 free theatrical proposals. It is a phenomenon that is not seen in another place in the world, Argentina has a creative matrix of makers and spaces that make it what it is, a lighthouse for the rest of the world in theater, we are admired worldwide for the theater we do and the volume of people and spaces involved.
Q.: Does the festival contribute to new audiences to the theater?
MS: Yes, definitely, because the matrix of this celebration is to do it for citizens to access throughout the country to see free works. There was a public of the theater, because one of the great engines that our Argentine theater has is validation through an audience eager to see theater, but there was also a public that does not have the habit and became interested in approaching, that motorizes that public are reproduced.
Q.: How are the independent theater rooms today?
MS: Independent theater is not a homogeneous field because there is enormous diversity around production systems, forms of creation, audiences to which they are directed. They are fundamental bastions within the theatrical field, they do not stop producing and being spaces for presentation of works. That happens nationwide and beyond heterogeneities have a vital value in our Argentine cultural heritage.
