The responsible medical investigator has announced the results of Gene Hackman’s autopsy and his wife Betsy Arakawa. So she died days before him.
The died -like, showy gene Hackman apparently lived on his property next to his wife’s body. The medical investigator Heather Jarrrell announced on Friday in Santa Fe (New Mexico) that the autopsy of Arakawa had shown that this had probably died of a viral disease by so -called Hantaviruses on February 11th. The pathogens affect the respiratory tract.
Hackman himself died of cardiovascular disease a week later, on February 18, Jarrell continued. In addition, an advanced Alzheimer’s disease was found in the 95-year-old. “He was in a very bad state of health and had a serious heart disease. And I think that was ultimately the cause of his death,” concluded the doctor.
“It is reasonable to assume that Ms. Hackman died first,” continued Jarell. Sheriff Adan Mendoza said that it was assuming that Hackman had lived in the house next to his dead wife for days.
Investigations into Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa
Since the couple was discovered together with a dead dog last Wednesday, the investigation has been in full swing. An analysis by Hackman’s pacemaker showed that the last heart activities were recorded on February 18.
Bye-bye, Popeye: On the death of Gene Hackman
This film gave Hackman the breakthrough: in 1967 producer and leading actor Warren Beatty (right) signed him for the film “Bonnie and Clyde” directed by Arthur Penn. The film became a box office hit – and Hackman received his first Oscar nomination. From then on he was considered one of the leading actors of New Hollywood

Arakawa was last seen on recordings of surveillance cameras of a drugstore from February 11th. After that there was no longer a sign of life. E-mails, for example, remained unanswered.
Investigation of the cause of death for mysterious circumstances
The circumstances of Hackmann were unusual from the start, so that a comprehensive examination was initiated. While Arakawa’s body was lying on the floor in the bathroom, Hackman was found motionless in the entrance area. In addition to the dead dog, the investigators discovered two other dogs that were still alive.
A search order also showed that the entrance door was open to a gap. However, the investigators largely excluded a crime. The first results did not provide any evidence of carbon monoxide poisoning. In addition, no traces of external violence could be found.
Legendary actor
Hackman was one of the most outstanding actors in his generation. The two-time Oscar winner achieved world fame with films such as “French Connection” (1971), “The Conversation” (1974) and “Merciless” (1992). In the early 2000s, he finally pulled back from Hollywood’s spotlight.
