When examining the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, the death of the dog Zinna is also examined more closely.
After the tragic deaths of Hollywood star Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa Hackman in February – he was 95, she 64 years old – the investigations are in full swing. As the authorities announced on Friday, the family dog Zinna, an Australian Kelpie mixing, also deceased will now be subjected to an investigation to determine the cause of death.
The police also confirmed the couple’s causes of death. Betsy Arakawa Hackman died of Hantavirus, a disease transmitted by rodents. The Oscar winner died about a week later from a combination of severe heart disease, high blood pressure and advanced Alzheimer’s.
As the authorities said, there were no signs of external fault in the deaths.
The find in the dog box
The officials also found the family dog Zinna dead in a box when discovering the corpses on February 26. Sheriff Adan Mendoza explained that Betsy Hackman picked up the dog from the Gruda Veterinary Hospital on February 9th. “There was treatment for the dog, which could explain why he was in a box in the house,” said the sheriff.
Two other dogs from the couple, the German shepherds Bear and Nikita, were found alive on the property and are good.
Long alone with the deceased wife
The new information draws a tragic picture of the actor’s last days. Gene Hackman is said to have not even noticed due to his advanced Alzheimer’s disease that his wife had died. He probably spent several days alone with his dead wife in the house in Santa Fe before he died.
The actor’s daughter initially suspected carbon monoxide poisoning as a possible cause of death, but this was not confirmed.
Gene Hackman was one of the greatest actors in Hollywood. He won Oscars for his roles in “French Connection” and “Merciless” and was seen in numerous film classics such as “Superman”, “Mississippi Burning” and “The Royal Tenenbaums”. After the film “Welcome to Mooseport” (2004), the actor had withdrawn from the public.
In an interview with the 2011 magazine GQ magazine, Hackman said that he wanted to be honest as “decent actor” and “someone who tried what was given to him”. When asked how he would summarize his life in a single sentence, Hackman replied: “‘He tried.’ I think that would be pretty correct. “
