“Death is under control,” says Rainer Langhans. The 84-year-old cult star of the 68 movement speaks openly about his death process.
Big concern about cult figure Rainer Langhans: The 84-year-old actor and activist has been fighting prostate cancer for five years. Now his state of health has apparently deteriorated dramatically. “I am dying, say the doctors. So death has me under control, “.
No surgery or chemo
Langhans has been treated palliatively since his cancer diagnosis five years ago. Operation or chemotherapy were out of the question for him “because I don’t want to start war with my body”. A new blood test now brought the result that the values worsened.
“The doctors told me: Now it’s your turn. And that I will soon be dead. There is no chance of healing, they can only make it easier for me to die,” he reports sober. The 84-year-old receives hormone therapy that reduces the testosterone, as he says.
The three women who live together with Langhans in separate apartments in a house in Munich-Schwabing are said to be difficult for the news. The women were afraid for him, but he himself does not panic, but meditates against the fear of death. His spirituality helps him.
Icon of the 68 movement
Langhans became known in the late 1960s as a co -founder of the political community of municipality I in Berlin. There he also met the photo model Uschi Obermaier (78). The couple practicing free love became icons of the hippie time.
Despite his serious diagnosis, the 84-year-old last showed on March 7 at the opening of the new art museum in Tübingen, where he met Thomas Gottschalk (74). “I accepted the cancer,” he explains.
He hasn’t thought about his final resting place yet, says Langhans. He live in the here and now. And wanted to use the remaining time. “And when it is so far, women can think about something. They will definitely make it beautiful.”
