The couple announced the sad news on March 23 in a statement that was shared on the X-account of the New York Yankees. It said that the teenager died “peacefully in her sleep” on Friday morning. “He was 14 years old and left us far too early after having suffered on vacation with several other family members,” the parents wrote. “We have so many questions and so few answers.”
They also emphasized: “Miller was a beloved son and brother and we still can’t imagine our life without his contagious smile.” He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and friends. “He enjoyed his life to the fullest every day.”
The Gardners expressed their gratitude towards those who offered them “support and encouragement in this difficult time”.
The Yankees published a separate explanation on X, in which they emphasized that their hearts were difficult and the team was “grief fulfilled”: “Words seem insignificant and inadequate when trying to describe such an unimaginable loss.”
