Armin Rohde recently celebrated his 70th birthday. How does he think about life and death?
Armin Rohde (70) has been a welcome face on German TV screens and cinema screens for decades. In a cemetery, the actor who has just celebrated his milestone birthday talked about life and death.
Death has been accompanied by Armin Rohde for a long time
The topic of death has been accompanying him since the age of twelve, says Rohde im. At that time his favorite succk died. Later he lost friends and family members. “Nowhere else can you better become aware of your own transience than in the cemetery,” says the drama star. It will be “very different” if you discover gravestones with years that come close to your own.
Rohde has “absolutely no desire to die”, but he was not afraid of it. “I can hardly believe that I’m 70 now. It is as if someone has looted my time account in recent years.” For him there is “absolutely no alternative. And then I will have enough time at some point. Here and today I still have too much in mind.” He wanted to “use every second” – especially with beloved people – and has to struggle with it that a day only has 24 hours.
“Before death in general, I am not bang,” repeats Rohde. He explains: “I consciously catch up with him in the cemetery, which makes it an acceptable size. We are finite.” Rohde is not only an actor, but also a passionate photographer. Even in the interview in the cemetery, he had the camera with him. He presented his photographic work and up.
