Katy Perry: Popstar completes flight to the Allt with rocket from Jeff Bezos

Pop star Katy Perry and other prominent women flew into space on Monday. The new Shepard rocket of the US company Blue Origin started shortly after 8.30 a.m. (local time, 3:30 p.m. CEST) from West Texas, as could be seen in a live stream. After only 10:22 minutes, the capsule put on earth safely. The maximum speed on the way to space was about 3600 kilometers per hour.

In the live stream, the astronauts of the exclusively female crew were heard and celebrated at over 100 kilometers. One person on board seemed to scream: “We are in space!” Katy Perry had announced that she wanted to sing in weightlessness-after landing it became clear that the 40-year-old actually performed some lines of the hits “What a Wonderful World” in space.

She had previously covered Louis Armstrong’s song at concerts. “I had no idea that one day I would decide to sing a little bit of it in space,” said Perry. After landing, she knelt on the desert floor and kissed the sand.

In addition to Perry, Lauren Sánchez, the fiancee of Blue-Origin owner Jeff Bezos, was on board. After the successful landing, Bezos personally opened the hatch of the space capsule. Sánchez then described her view of the earth from space as follows: “It was calm, but at the same time very lively. And you look at it and think: We are all in a boat. This is all I can think about: we are more connected than you think.”

Blue Origin had started to send wealthy tourists and celebrities to the edge of the Orbits with the Raket New Shepard. The inmates should experience weightlessness for a short time, the space capsule crosses the Kármán line-the internationally recognized border with space, a hundred kilometers above sea level.

In addition to Perry and Sánchez, the scientist Amanda Nguyen, the former NASA rocket researcher Aisha Bowe, the CBS presenter Gayle King and the film producer Kerianne Flynn flew along.

Before the flight, Perry had said that with her participation she also wanted to be a role model for her daughter Daisy: The daughter with actor Orlando Bloom should be inspired to “set no limits to her dreams,” said the singer of the magazine “Elle”. “I’m just so excited to see the rays in her eyes when she sees the rocket starting and can tell at school the next day: ‘Mama was in space'”.

Perry was also pleased with personal references to the space capsule. This bears the name “turtle” and has a “spring” design-both names that her parents would have given her, she said in an Instagram video that was spread over the weekend. This is a good “sign of heaven” for your flight.

A reusable New Shepard rocket is used for the blue-original flights. It is named after Alan Shepard, the first US citizen in space. During the flight, the capsule loosens with the occupants from the rocket, the rocket then puts on earth again vertically on earth.
