After her anxiety lawsuit against music producer Jay-Z, the woman now wants to have his million dollar action rejected.
The woman who accused rapper Jay-Z (55) of sexual abuse is now defending himself against his defamation. , the plaintiff, which was managed as Jane Doe, filed an application on Tuesday to have Jay-Zs complained against her.
The case began in December 2024, when the Anonymous plaintiff raised serious accusations against the musician: she claimed that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs had raped them in 2000 at an after party at the MTV Video Music Awards when she was only 13 years old. However, her lawyers voluntarily withdrew this lawsuit in February 2025.
Jay-Z sees his reputation damaged
Jay-Z, with a bourgeois name Shawn Carter, reacted in March with his own lawsuit against Jane Doe and her legal representatives Tony Buzbee and David Fortney. He accuses them of malicious accusation, process abuse and civil law conspiracy. He also sued Doe separately for defamation and demands compensation.
In his application, the rapper describes the original allegations of rape as knowingly “wrong” and “maliciously”. The lawsuit was “strategically and tactically calculated” to blackmail it. Jay-Z sticts that he has suffered significant damage through the lawsuit, including calls for reputation and financial losses for his ROC Nation company in the amount of over $ 20 million.
Plaintiff: Appeal to “absolute privileges”
In her new application of April 22, the applicant now argues that Jay-Z’s lawsuit “does not offer a basis for a legal claim”. Your lawyers lead several legal reasons.
Your reasoning against the defamation accusation is particularly interesting. The woman claims that her statements in the original lawsuit and compared to media are legally protected under California law and therefore “cannot form the basis for a defamation”. In addition, she states that, according to his own information, Jay-Z was not damaged by her statements because he himself claimed that an NBC news contribution “refuted” her allegations and that “no reasonable person” had believed that he had sexually abused them.
Dispute over alleged evidence
The legal discussion is also made more difficult by an alleged sound recording. In March, Jay-Z’s lawyer Alex Spiro mentioned a recording in a “Good Morning America” interview in which the plaintiff allegedly denied that Jay-Z has ever misused her. “She clearly says that Mr. Carter did not do that,” said Spiro. “The only reason why Mr. Carter was involved in this matter was that she was pushed by a lawyer to involve him.” The applicant’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, rejected this presentation and described Spiro’s claims as “obvious lie”.
As “People” reports, both Jay-Z and Jane Doe and their lawyers have so far given no further public statements on the latest developments. The court will be expected to decide on the application for rejection in the coming weeks.
