Halle Berry and Jeremy Strong join Juliette Binoche in the jury of the Cannes Festival

Payal Kapadia, Alba Rohrwacher and Hong Sangsoo will also be aboard the 78th Film Festival.

Halle Berry and Jeremy Strong will accompany to Juliette Binoche In Croisette, as announced by the Cannes Film Festival. In addition to the two American actors, Payal Kapadia, Alba Rohrwacher, Hong Sangsoo, Leïla Slimani, Hamadi Dieudo and Carlos Reygadas They will also be part of the jury chaired by Binoche. The 78th edition of the Festival will be held from May 13 to 24.

The jury will decide the winner of the Festival’s highest award, La Palma de Oro, for one of the 21 films in competition. The winners will be announced on Saturday, May 24. Last year, the jury chaired by Greta Gerwig granted the palm to Anora of Be Bakerwhich, of course, subsequently won the award for the best film and numerous Academy Awards, including the best actress for Mikey Madison.

Several of the jurors are veterans of Cannes: Indian director Kapadia won the Grand Prix last year for All We imagine as light; Italian actress Rohrwacher has attended the festival several times, often to support films she directed with her filmmaker, Alice Rohrwacher (The Wonders, La Chimera); Hamadi returns after his documentary Downstream to Kinshasa became the first Congolese film in the official selection in 2020; and South Korean Sangsoo and Mexican Reygadas return after premiering several films in Cannes over the years and obtaining multiple awards. Finally, Strong attended the festival last year for the premiere of The Amprenticethat earned him an Oscar nomination as a cast actor.

Competition films of the Cannes Festival

Among the films previously announced in the main competition are The Phoenician Scheme of Wes Anderson, New Wave of Richard Linklater, Jeunes Mères of the Dardenne brothers, Alpha of Julia Ducournou, Die My Love of Lynne Ramsay and AFFEKSJONSVERDI (Sentimental value) of Joachim Trier.
