Versatile artist with a strong social commitment
Born in 1959 in Denver, Colorado, Sobule published her first album “Things here here Different” in 1990, produced by the legendary Todd Rundgren. Her song “Too Cool to Fall in Love” from this debut album reached 17th place on the Adult Contemporary Charts. But it was only with her album of the same name “Jill Sobule” from 1995 that she managed the commercial breakthrough.
Sobule was not only known for their music, but also for their social commitment. In her songs, she addressed difficult topics such as death penalty, anorexia or shoplifting. Her texts were characterized by wit, openness and socio -political relevance.
The artist was also a pioneer in the field of crowdfunding: As early as 2008, she collected $ 75,000 of more than $ 500 for her album “California Years” – years before platforms such as “Kickstarter” became the standard for musicians. She continued this innovative approach to later projects.
Current project and tragic death
At the time of her death, Sobule faced several publications. For June 6, the publication of the original Cast Recording of her autobiographical musical “F*ck 7th Grade” was planned, together with a special 30th anniversary edition of her self-titled album, as the “People” magazine reports.
