Banking instead of MET GALA: Start start against rapper Combs

Sean Combs in New York always liked to celebrate the first Monday in May with many other stars at the Met Gala. This time, however, the rapper is on trial in the city – and the allegations are violent.

The highly awaited process against the rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, which was once celebrated as a superstart, has started for allegations of sexual offenses. In the presence of the 55-year-old defendant, judge Arun Subramanian officially opened the procedure in New York.

Combs sat in addition to his defense team, according to the U.S. media reports, and wore reading glasses and simple clothing after the judge had previously expressly approved him not to have to appear in prison clothing. Before the court in the south of Manhattan, dozens of media representatives as well as some supporters and opponents of Combs gathered on the rainy and cloudy day.

In the procedure, it was initially the selection of a jury that could take several days. In this case, the public prosecutor and defense even saw the search as difficult in view of the prominent defendant that they already distributed questionnaires to potential jury candidates in advance.

In custody since September

Combs has been in custody since mid -September. He is accused of the public prosecutor’s office, organized crime and other offenses. If he was convicted, he threatens a lifelong prison sentence. In addition to the indictment of the New York public prosecutor, there are also numerous civil lawsuits against the rapper. Among other things, a law firm in Houston’s Texan’s Huston is represented by around 120 people with allegations against Combs.

So far, the rapper has rejected all the allegations and pleaded for not guilty. Among other things, his lawyers argued in advance that Combs had lived a “swinger lifestyle” and might not have been completely accountable by drugs.

The trial in New York could take several weeks or even months. The process arouses memories of similar processes for sex crimes against ex -superstars in recent years – among others against R. Kelly, Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein, whose process is currently being reopened in New York.

Combs was one of the most successful rappers in the world

The Combs, born in the New York district of Harlem in 1969, has been one of the most successful rappers in the world with hits such as “i’ll Be Missing You” and “Bad Boy for Life”. In the course of his career, he used the pseudonymous “Puff Daddy”, “P. Diddy” and “Diddy”. The musician, who was married three times and has seven children, also founded his own label and was successful with a fashion brand.

His mother and children stick to him and have repeatedly shown themselves among the spectators when listening to court. However, numerous celebrities have now distanced themselves from Combs.

For the night of Tuesday, the Metropolitan Museum was only set in New York-just a few kilometers from the court-the Met-Gala, which is often known as the “Party of the Year”,. In the past few years, Combs had always been happy to have shown and photographed between many other stars. This year, however, the gala will take place without it – and Combs will spend the night in the Metropolitan Detention Center, the prison in the Brooklyn district in which he sits in custody.
