London’s “Super Abwasser Canal” was in the works for ten years and cost five billion euros. Now King Charles marveled at the result.
Perhaps it may not have been the most appetizing royal task in its tenure to date as king, but an extremely important for the city of London: King Charles III. (76) celebrated the completion of the Thames Tideway tunnels on Wednesday. On this occasion he met part of the numerous construction workers who were involved in the mammoth project. For around ten years, the tunnel, which is also being titled as a “super sampling channel” in the British media, has been in the works.
For the future cleanliness of the Thames, the 25-kilometer Thames Tides Way Tunnel is given a major role: This reduces the river by 95 percent. On site, King Charles had the technology explained, unveiled a badge, shook numerous hands and visibly joked in a good mood with the workers. In the explanation that some channel work was easier to take, he did not make it easier to tear a joke over the typical British dirty weather.
Over five billion euros expensive
The Thames Tideway Tunnel is truly a major project. According to the report, around 20,000 people have been deployed in the course of the almost ten years of construction. It is said to have cost 4.5 billion British pounds, around 5.3 billion euros.
“The king was fascinated by the details and the quality” of the system, Thames-Eideway director Andy Mitchell is quoted from the side. This was very well received, especially among the workers: “The team was absolutely enthusiastic when the king praised the quality. There is great passion here.”
Incidentally, Charles had traveled to the location of the opening with the latest from London’s hybrid passenger ferries. During the approximately ten-minute crossing on the ship called Mars Clipper, information about the positive effects of such a hybrid boat on the environment. In addition to the water, air pollution is also increasing in this way.
