The first garden party of the year in the Buckingham Palast has on May 7th with the hosts King Charles III. (76) and wife Queen Camilla (77) took place. The two were accompanied by other high -ranking members of the royal family.
King Charles appeared at the traditional event, which could take place in sunny weather, in an elegant cutaway in gray with a black cylinder, according to the dress code for garden parties, which demands cutaways or suits. Women wear clothes, mostly with a hat or fascinator. National costume and uniform are often also worn.
According to “People”, Queen Camilla showed her in a dark-turkey-colored ensemble by Christian Dior with a wide-brimmed hat by Philip Treacy. In terms of color, her look matched the vest and to the pocket square of Charles, which he chose in light blue. The two came accompanied by Princess Anne (74), Prince Edward (61) as well as Duchess Sophie (60) and the duke’s couple from Gloucester.
This traditional event goes back to the 1860s and serves as an opportunity for the monarch to thank and appreciate outstanding members of the community for their contributions and to appreciate public services. Every year, over 30,000 people are invited to the various garden receptions.
The gates of the palace open for the guests at 3 p.m. local time, while the official start of the event takes place an hour later when the members of the royal family arrive and the national anthem is played by a military band. Then the guests are invited to eat cakes, drink tea, walk in the gardens of the palace or to talk to one of the royals.
