Not his famous father, but Bruce Springsteen once aroused his desire for a music career. So Enrique Iglesias became Latino star.
Whether fashion or music, the zero years are back – Enrique Iglesias, who celebrates its 50th birthday on May 8, 2025, but is not again, but still there. Little has changed since the great success: Those who hear their name still rightly think of wind machines, open shirts and choruses that nestle into the ear canal like cotton candy.
The pop career with hot -blooded emotions, lots of charm and a little kitsch was put in the children’s cradle in Madrid. His father was Julio Iglesias (81) – Spain’s answer to Frank Sinatra (1915-1998). But the son wanted to go his own way. The initial spark for his wish to become a musician came at the age of nine at a concert by Bruce Springsteen (75). “I saw the guy on stage and just thought: I would do anything to be,” recalled Enrique
However, he did not want to use the contacts or his father’s famous name to get into the spotlight. Instead, Enrique sent his demotape under the wrong surname. The talent was enough – he got a record contract and released his first album – then under his real name at the age of 20.
Breakthrough with “Wild Wild West” hit
In 1999 the international breakthrough came with the hit “Bailamos”, part of the soundtrack to “Wild Wild West”. Just a year later he was on the Super Bowl stage with Christina Aguilera (44), Phil Collins (74) and Toni Braxton (57). In 2001 his fifth album “Escape” was published, which is his greatest success with hits like “Hero” to this day. It also rained prices, including a Grammy as “Best Latin Pop performer” and numerous billboard awards. This was followed by duets, tours, collaborations with stars such as Shakira (48), Jennifer Lopez (55), Kylie Minogue (56) or Pitbull (44).
He still maintains his reputation as a hot-blooded Latino pop star. His songs circle almost exclusively about the topics of love and sex, sometimes romantic with titles like “Could I have this kiss forever?”, Sometimes less with songs like “Tonight (I’m fuckin ‘you)”. Even his tenth album was entitled “Sex and Love”, the order of the words of his partner Anna Kournikova (43). The two got to know each other in a video shoot in 2001. “For me, she was just the coolest girl in the world,” said Iglesias later. In the meantime, the few have three children: the twins Lucy and Nicholas (2017) and daughter Mary (2020).
No more albums – but devoted fans
Today Enrique no longer publishes albums, “Finale (Vol. 2)” from 2024 is said to have been his last. Which does not mean that his fans have to say goodbye to the singer. Already in 2021 he had in conversation: “No, I will never retire!”
To date, he is on stage, celebrates, lives the dream, the Springsteen triggered it in it more than four decades ago. And it works: He posts on Instagram, in which women enthusiastic at his concerts screeching and fainting is close to his neck. For them, Enrique Iglesias will be one “hero” forever.
