Shia Labeouf speaks over a dark time: he lived in Central Park and took steroids.

A year ago, Shia Labouf (38) passed to Catholicism and now wants to lead a quieter life together with his wife Mia Goth (31). In the past, the scandalous actor made headlines, especially with his unsteady lifestyle. In an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter”, he now revealed that he even slept in New York’s Central Park for a while.

“They hold horses there on this small fire pool,” said Labouf. There was “a lot of space” there, “where you can just chill out”. You just have to “change the place every three or four hours” because it is regularly checked. “But you can spend most of the time there,” said the actor. At the time when Shia Labeouf slept in Central Park, he said he was in poor condition – among other things, he took steroids at the time.

That’s why Shia Labeouf had a difficult time back then

When exactly he stayed in New York Park, Shia Labeouf did not reveal. He only explained that it was “Orphans” during the rehearsals. In the fact that the actor left the project – officially because of “creative differences”, as the producers said.

His difficulties in “Orphans” began when Alec Baldwin (67) replaced Al Pacino (85) at short notice. As Labeouf told the “Hollywood Reporter”, he had completely geared his way of working on Pacino – with Baldwin the chemistry was artistically voted. In the meantime, however, the relationship has relaxed: “He is a good guy. He is exactly like me,” said Labouf about his colleague.

Lack of spirituality

Labeouf admitted that at that time he was anything but easy to care for. “I found that it was because I had no spiritual life at all,” he said. He now seems to have overcome the former intellectual emptiness: Shia Labouf has not only converted to Catholicism, but even lived in a monastery for a while.

Before his spiritual U-turn, the “Transformers” star was not only known for its extreme roles preparation, but also for numerous private escapades. In 2020, his ex-partner, musician FKA Twigs (37), made serious allegations: she accused him of having abused her physically and mentally. Because of his alcohol addiction, Labouf went to a withdrawal clinic in 2021, according to media reports.

On May 9, 2025, his new film “Henry Johnson” is now starting in the cinemas. In the work of director David Mamet (77) Labeouf embodies a convict.
