Queen Margrethe von Denmark is back in her residence after her hospital stay. The palace gave the all -clear.
Good news from Denmark: Queen Margrethe (85) was able to leave the Copenhagen Rigshospitallet on Saturday morning. The royal palace announced that the former monarchy was again in her residence in Fredensborg Castle. “Your majesty is fine,” says the message published on the Königshaus website.
Short treatment for a cold
The 85-year-old Margrethe was only taken to the hospital on Thursday for a “cold”. According to the palace, this only happened “for security reasons”. The old queen had nevertheless canceled her appointments planned for the coming days.
Her son King Frederik (56) had visited Margrethe on the day of her admission in the hospital. On Friday morning, she was “relaxed and good things” and is therefore expected to be released from the clinic at the weekend.
Surprising abdication after 52 years
It is the second time within a few months that the old queen had to be treated in the rigshospital. In September 2024 she was taken after a fall in her summer residence. These health problems are also said to have been the reason why she had surprisingly announced her abdication after almost 52 years after almost 52 years on the throne.
Two weeks later, her eldest son Frederik was officially crowned King of Denmark. Despite her abdication, Margrethe remains a fixture in the Danish royal family and regularly perceives official appointments.
