With his shrill style, the couple Eva & Adele attracted the changing work of art not only in Berlin. Now there is sad news.

The artist Eva from the well-known Berlin duo Eva & Adele is dead. She died in the shared apartment in Berlin-Charlottenburg, as her partner Adele now announced. “I accompanied her, at home,” she said. After an operation on the lumbar spine, Eva recently lacked the energy.

Eva & Adele were an institution in Berlin, but also far beyond the borders of the capital. They met for the first time in 1988, and since 1991 the duo has been found as a walking total work of art at international cultural events and parties. Their recognition feature was the always identical and mostly shrill presentation – with bald -shaved heads and extravagant costumes. Private, among other things, her age, Eva & Adele always kept secret.

“We were together day and night, for decades. We rocked it incredibly well,” said Adele in retrospect. “Eva had enormous strength and discipline. For her, art was the highest good that there is in the world. But it was not only strong, it was also particularly tender and sensitive.”

Now Adele has to go her way alone. “I will continue to work artistically,” she announced. “Eva also told me that: ‘Please continue working’.” Accordingly, Adele first wants to finish a large project with 201 canvas on which both have been working for years.

An Eva & Adele Foundation is also planned. “We determined that a few years ago.” The aim of the foundation will be to promote projects that reflect the overall artistic work of the duo.

Fine art in all its diversity, photos, videos, installations and performances – Eva & Adele escaped artistic drawers and invented again and again. They were also successful internationally: the Paris Museum of Modern Art (MAM), for example, dedicated a retrospective to the artist couple in 2016.

The shrill duo has been part of the permanent exhibition in the Berlin Museum Hamburger Bahnhof, National Gallery of the Present. They left their work “Cum-Polaroids” as a gift to the museum. It comprises more than 200 Polaroid photos that Eva & Adele show in her appearances in places worldwide.

Art and private separated both consistently. They only said so much about their origin: “We are coming from the future.” In a post on Instagram it was said: “Eva went back to the future today. She left this world and entered the eternal stage.”
