Jan Hofer sends greetings from Mallorca – and shows himself unusually freely
Jan Hofer apparently enjoys not having to wear every day. On the net, he shares private insights from his life in Mallorca – and shows himself more casual than ever.
Actually, Jan Hofer is only known in a suit and tie. For decades he presented the ARD “Tagesschau”, later the “RTL Direkt” evening messages. In August he left the broadcaster after three years. He wanted to concentrate more on his family, the 75-year-old said when he said goodbye. And since then he has enjoyed his life in Mallorca. After he had had a second home for many years, he now lives permanently on the popular Balearic Island.
He was now unusually casual on Instagram. Together with his wife Phong Lan Truong, he poses on the beach – at the top without, she in bikini. Two of his three sons can also be seen in other pictures. He writes: “Weekend with my family. What did you do?”
Jan Hofer enjoys family life in Mallorca
Social events are no longer in the foreground, as he revealed in an interview with the “Mallorca Magazin” a few months ago. After all, his wife and he would always have to hire a nanny for her son Henry, 9. “We prefer to go to the beach with the family, play football or visit the trampoline park Palma Jump,” said Hofer. Boat trips are also on the program. “After all, I got the boat license three years ago”.

But apparently he doesn’t want to turn his back on TV. Only the genre seems to have changed. Most recently, Hofer also liked to go on trips to reality TV. In 2021 he took part in the 14th season of “Let’s Dance” and reached eighth place. He was also seen in the current season of the RTL program “Die traitor”, but was selected by his teammates in the second episode.

After three years there is an end: Jan Hofer will host “RTL directly” this evening. The 74-year-old mainly gave family reasons for his exit. “I only saw my son grow up temporarily, and that is no fun,” he told the RND. “And the farewell from him, when I travel to Berlin, are getting longer and more tearful. Children are merciless, they want their dad.” In the future he will have more time for his son born in 2015
