Lukas Klaschinski: “Toxic” has become a real buzzword in recent years to describe dysfunctional relationships. The word “toxic” was named Word of the Year by the Oxford Dictionary in 2018 and has since spread to the German-speaking world. Even though the term “toxic relationship” is now often used synonymously to mean that a relationship is not going well, there are some characteristics that distinguish genuine toxic relationships.
