The word “toxic” was named Word of the Year by the Oxford Dictionary in 2018 and has since spread to the German-speaking world. Even though the term “toxic relationship” is now often used synonymously to mean that a relationship is not going well, there are some characteristics that distinguish genuine toxic relationships.
