Horrifying conditions at Germany’s most famous clinic: a team of reporters was “Inside Charité” for months. There they encountered overworked staff and errors that put patients at risk.

The patient, Mr. Meisner, moans: “Please, please, please let me,” he begs when the nurse wants to put a new bladder catheter in him. Mr. Meisner appears disoriented and has a high fever. His condition is worsening day by day. When the old catheter is replaced, it starts to bleed. And it doesn’t stop anymore.
Mr. Meisner is not his real name. A reporter documents his suffering during her undercover mission. Meisner is a patient in the neurosurgery department at the Charité, in Germany’s most famous hospital.
The material shows how nurses, students in the practical year (PJler) and assistant doctors accompany Mr. Meisner’s worrying condition. They try in vain to get medical help. The helplessness is written on the employees’ faces.
In conversation with the expert Dr. Bernd Hontschik

The reporters Manka Heise and Christian Esser speak with the expert and surgeon Dr. Bernd Hontschik about the undercover operation at the Charité. When asked about Mr. Meisner, Hontschik said: “I’m stunned, it couldn’t have been admitted to a German hospital.” Bernd Hontschik suspects that Mr. Meisner could be in a life-threatening condition when he is transferred to the intensive care unit.
