Journalist Anna Aridzanjan, 37, has always been easily overstimulated. It wasn’t until she was an adult that she learned that the cause was psychological.

When I was a child, no one would have thought that I might have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I got along well at school and understood a lot of things straight away. I had the privilege of never having to study and did very well. But there was always chaos in my head. I quickly became overstimulated, impulsive, emotional. I had enormous difficulties at university. I lacked the external controls that had existed at school – and for the first time in my life I was confronted with the fact that I wasn’t keeping up. I thought: Okay, you’re either too stupid or too undisciplined.
