The skin production of the skin actually serves to protect against external influences. However, if the glands produce too much sebum, we get a greasy complexion – especially on the face.

Greasy skin is primarily an aesthetic problem, but also a health in the second instance: the excessive sebum production creates an oily complexion, so that the pores are clogged and blemishes are favored. As if that weren’t annoying enough, those affected also have to deal with pimples and blueprints that sprout more on the face, shoulder and back area. But why do some people actually tend to grease greasy skin, but why the sebum glands off too much lubricating materials and – which is even more important – how can you permanently improve the complexion? How does greasy skin arise? These are the causes

Usually the sebaceous glands produce one to two grams of body fat, also called Sebum in specialist circles. However, if this amount is exceeded, the pores and widen, the sebum can no longer flow properly and an oily film is created on the skin surface. In addition, bacteria can spread faster on the surface and thus trigger inflammation that promote blemishes such as blackheads and pimples. But how does such overproduction come about? The best known causes of greasy skin with large pores include hereditary predispositions, stress, incorrect (deficiency) nutrition, diseases of the ovaries, Parkinson’s and excessive alcohol consumption. The regular use of medication such as hormone preparations can also influence sebum production.

In the most common cases, however, our own hormones ensure oily skin – more precisely it is the male sex hormones, known as androgens. A woman’s body also produces this hormone, so that both genders know the problem alike. Due to the excessive androgen production, teenagers in particular suffer from oily skin in combination with pimples, blueprints or acne, but adults can also be affected. Women in particular when their hormone production changes, for example through pregnancy, stopping the antibaby pill or shortly before their menstruation. So they are not immune to greasy skin at any age. However, the positive message is: there are many effective methods of how you can significantly improve your complexion and reduce blemishes.

So clean and maintain greasy skin correctly

On the face, greasy skin usually occurs in the so-called T-zone, i.e. on the forehead, on the nose and on the chin. This is mainly due to the fact that there are more sebum glands in these areas than, for example, on the cheeks. But the scalp, the back and shoulders can also produce too much sebum and therefore appear oily. It is all the more important to properly clean and maintain the affected areas. Ideally every morning and every evening: however, commercially available soaps and creams are the wrong choice here, since they usually only make the symptoms worse. Better use gentle cleaning agents with which you regularly clean your greasy skin to free the clogged pores of excessive sebum. For the face, a non-dashing washing gel (pH-neutral) is recommended, gentle peeling with salicylic acid (important: only use a maximum of twice a week to remove dead skin scales) or a mild cleaning foam.

Furthermore, healing earth in the form of a facial mask is suitable for cleaning greasy skin, which is primarily intended to reduce large pores that are widened by excessive sebum production. And facial toners can also remedy the situation, especially if it contains alcohol (i.e. ethanol) and thus has a disinfectant effect on the skin. And last but not least, a gentle cleaning milk is also recommended, but you should make sure that you only use one with fat -absorbing properties. However, keep in mind not to degreas your skin too often – otherwise you risk destroying the natural acid protection jacket, so that the sebaceous glands conversely produce even more fat to compensate for the loss. That would not be the point.

Greasy skin must be maintained

Care comes after cleaning – because even greasy skin needs moisture. When using day and night creams, make sure that the products are not lipid-fat, but have moisturizing properties. Here, too, there are special care items for oily skin that reduce the sebum and minimize the typical fat gloss. When using cosmetics daily, however, you should definitely pay attention to the “not comedogenic” addition to the packaging. “Comedogen” means certain ingredients that are said to be clogged the pores. And of course that’s the last thing you want when you put on make -up.

Have you ever noticed that your skin shines particularly strongly at lunchtime and less for late evening? This is sometimes due to the fact that their sebum glands work differently over the day-so it is advisable to rely on oil-free make-up with matting pigments that binds excess fat on the skin. However, apply the product only after thorough cleaning on your face and avoid powdering several times, otherwise the powder mixes with the sebum or fat gloss and in turn offers an ideal breeding ground for bacteria that promote blemishes such as pimples and blackheads.

Foods that are healthy

As already mentioned at the beginning, our diet also influences the complexion. Especially when they suffer from greasy skin, it is advisable to do without particularly salt, fat or sugar-containing foods- because they promote sebum production. On the other hand, pay attention to a balanced menu, in which more fresh fruit and vegetable varieties and fewer animal products such as red meat, milk, butter and cheese occur because they are rich in saturated fatty acids. In addition to healthy diet, it is also beneficial if you drink enough water (without taste) during the day. On the other hand, those foods that are rich in vitamin A or zinc are recommended, such as:

Which home remedies help against greasy skin?

Natural ingredients can be found in almost every household that can help you remove the fat gloss. Among other things, this includes lemon juice: the acid it contains not only kills germs, but also ensures that large pores contract. To do this, just mix a teaspoon of juice with half a spoon of water, hold a cotton pad in the liquid and then dab your skin. Let the solution work for ten minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water.
