For an FPÖ municipal councilor in the neighboring town of Radenthein, this was a violation of the applicable rules, as he wrote in a letter to the Spittal an der Drau district authority.
At the celebration last Saturday, the Carinthian Olympic champions Matthias Mayer, Fritz Strobl and Thomas Morgenstern were also present, as well as Governor Peter Kaiser (SPÖ), Provincial Councilor Sara Schaar (SPÖ) and Provincial Councilor Sebastian Schuschnig (ÖVP). The letter, which is available to the APA, says that at the same time as the celebration, an “event” – actually a demonstration against the Corona measures – took place in Spittal an der Drau, at which “several police units including dog handlers” were present and “several peaceful and blameless participants were “taken away by the police”.

mask exemption?
The municipal council is now demanding information as to whether Kaiser, Klammer or other participants at the reception were exempt from masks – and why in Spittal “even dog handlers were necessary to contain the virological danger” and not in Millstatt. The letter closes with the ad: If nothing has been done yet, “I would ask you to consider this letter as an ad.” Photos were included as “evidence”, for example by Peter Kaiser or Franz Klammer, but what is meant is “all other people whose faces in the pictures from February 20, 2022 you and your officers are certainly familiar to you”.
Mayor’s safety concept
The responsible mayor, Alexander Thoma (ÖVP), referred to the security concept in an interview with the APA: The actual program took place in a sealed off area in which around 20 people were invited, provided that the 2G rule was observed: ” That was also checked.” The procedure was also chosen at Gasser’s request: “She’s still in the World Cup and therefore wanted to keep the risk as low as possible.” That’s why there were neither personal encounters with fans nor autograph sessions. Thoma: “I can’t see any mistakes. I can’t imagine that something will come out of it if the survey is serious. That would be absurd.”
Governor: Display “obviously partisan”
A spokesman for Governor Kaiser told APA that the ad was “obviously partisan” motivated. Kaiser complied with the corona protection measures: “The governor wore an FFP2 mask, as photos show. He only took off the mask briefly for photos and speeches.” And that is also covered by the regulation. In fact, the legislator emphasized that the mask requirement outdoors does not apply “if the minimum distance to other people is only briefly undercut”.
