Kiev warned on Friday that it had registered worrying levels of radiation in Chernobyl, but the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) later reported that the levels presented “no danger to the public”.

According to some experts consulted by the media, the increase in radioactivity may be due to the military agitation that could have stirred up the earth and raised contaminated dust.

Given the concern, Igor Konashénkov, a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, reported: “An agreement has been reached with a battalion of the Ukrainian atomic energy security forces to jointly secure the energy blocks and the sarcophagus of the nuclear power plant. of Chernobyl”.

The official stated that “radiation in the area of ​​the nuclear power plant is in line with the norm” and specified that “the staff of the plant (…) is monitoring the situation of radioactivity.”
